Project Type: Private Residential

Location: Belgravia, London

Status: Schematic Design

Set in the heart of one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods, this ground and lower ground floor flat has been stripped of much of its original character and grandeur. In addition to restoring many original features, we are seeking to create a better connected and more cohesive family home.

The existing stair is steep and dangerous, accessed perilously close to the front door. We will replace this with a new vertical connection that becomes a piece of crafted furniture in both the floors that it serves. The client’s desire to bring a sense of performance back to this historic home is addressed in the upper ground floor. The entrance hall is reimagined as an ante room with the stair as its focal point. Here guests can gather before moving through to the original drawing room of the property for musical performances.

The journey down the stair becomes a curated sequence, opening unexpected vertical connections to the floor below. At this level, small and concise interventions are proposed that will restore a sense of luxury to the property. An opulent master bedroom suite is created that is fitting of such a historic home.
